How Laser Skin Rejuvenation Works
Lasers have been in use for wrinkle treatments and skin care benefits for over 30 years. The early models of CO2 lasers continuously focused on a single area of skin. Whenever skin is damaged with these lasers, it attempts to heal itself. This increases elastin and collagen which are vital for young looking skin. Over time new skin grows to replace the old, and leaves firmer skin with less wrinkles. As amazing as the results were, there were a few drawbacks with the early incarnations of CO2 laser treatments. Crusting and oozing from the damaged skin layers could take up to a month to recover from. To solve this problem fractional CO2 lasers were developed for patients who wanted the benefits of the treatment with a much faster recover time.
The SmartSkin+™ CO2 Laser
The SmartSkin+™ CO2 laser removes the top layer of your skin. It is notably different than a traditional CO2 laser in that it only exposes limited areas of skin and the light itself is split into multiple smaller beams. Because of these innovations, skin will be less damaged after each pass from the laser so recovery time is faster than with other CO2 treatment methods.
Treatment with the SmartSkin+™ CO2 Laser
SmartSkin+™ CO2 laser treatment takes 30-60 minutes on average. Before treatment begins there is an application of anesthetic cream which will help with any discomfort during the procedure. Additionally, protective eyewear is required during the treatment in order to protect your eyes. In our experience most patients have noted that the treatment is pretty comfortable with the application of numbing cream and cooling during the procedure.
SmartSkin+™ CO2 Laser Treatment Recovery
SmartSkin+™ CO2 Laser treatments are extremely customizable. Patients can choose whether they want the peeling to last a shorter seven days all the way to a deeper laser treatment where peeling could last as long as ten days. Generally, the more aggressive the treatment, the more intense the swelling and redness.
